Teijin Pharma Limited's Iwakuni Plant is the main factory for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, and handles everything from research and development to production.
In recent years, there have been concerns about vacancies due to the worsening labor shortage, and improving operational efficiency has become an issue in order to ensure a stable supply of medical equipment.
On the inspection and packaging lines, Excel VBA had been used for some time to improve the efficiency of data entry into forms and prevent data entry errors, but inputting inspection results into a PC required mouse operation, which was inefficient.
We thought that we could improve efficiency by using voice recognition, and began to consider introducing it.
The deciding factors for the introduction were security, price, and flexibility of input destination
From a security standpoint, we were looking for a standalone voice recognition service that was not cloud-based. "AmiVoice Keyboard" was attractive because it was cheaper than other companies, did not require embedded development, and could be operated by using existing Excel forms as is.
Achieve efficient form entry. Voice guidance also improves work quality.
Hands-free input of forms has become possible, which has improved efficiency. The words to be recognized have also been shortened, and there have been no mistranslations or misrecognitions.
Previously, after checking the work inspection items, the completion was entered using the mouse, but this has now been changed to voice input.
By having the employee listen to the voice and then say "OK," they are able to prevent continuous clicking on the PC screen. Furthermore, by making it impossible to input anything while the voice instructions are being played, the employee is able to thoroughly check the work content with both sound and sight, which also leads to improved work quality.
It also has the effect of discouraging private conversations, and we hope that an increase in users will lead to improved productivity.
Usage scenario
The next step is confirmed through voice guidance, and once the result is entered by voice, the next task details are announced.
The next work instructions are appropriately branched depending on the inspection results, so workers can complete their work simply by following the voice guidance.
About the future
We plan to expand the use of "AmiVoice Keyboard" to other lines as well.
We expect that we will see particularly significant benefits on lines with many work processes or lines where tools are used for work such as assembly.
Comments from the person in charge
We believe that by switching to voice input for inputting the results of production maintenance work, we have been able to raise awareness of preventing omissions and mistakes in work and improve work efficiency. In the future, we would like to expand the scope of use to other work, not just production maintenance processes, and use this to promote efficiency.
