Kashiwaba Neurosurgery Hospital’s project using AI voice recognition work sharing service for medical care received Advanced Case Study Award for Efficiency in Nursing Operations 2021

Using voice input to streamline nursing record work under the new coronavirus infection cluster

Utilizing Advanced Media Co., Ltd.'s (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Chairman and President: Kiyoyuki Suzuki; hereinafter referred to as Advanced Media) medical AI voice recognition work-sharing service "AmiVoice iNote," Social Medical Corporation Kashiwa-kai Kashiwa-ha Neurosurgical Hospital (Location: Sapporo, Hokkaido, hereafter referred to as Kashiwa-ha Neurosurgical Hospital)'s project "Nursing record revolution under the new coronavirus infection cluster! ~ Solving problems using smartphones ~" is a nursing job. We received the Excellence Award in the ``Utilization of AI, ICT, and other technologies'' category of the Advanced Case Study Awards 2021 (sponsored by the Japan Nursing Association).

At Kashiwaba Neurosurgical Hospital, an in-hospital cluster of new coronavirus infections occurred in May 2021, and we are looking for a way to record nursing care without carrying nursing forms, which is a potential source of in-hospital infections. Ta. Under these circumstances, we began to consider whether it would be possible to create nursing records using smartphones, which we had been testing before the cluster outbreak, and introduced "AmiVoice iNote."

[Effects of introducing AmiVoice iNote]

Create nursing notes instantly in the patient's room using voice input. The majority of records are completed within the hospital room, significantly reducing the time it takes to create them. Due to the reduction in overtime work, nurses' average overtime hours were reduced by approximately 65%, and their paid employment rate increased by 1.4 times. This has enabled nurses to spend more time on their primary duties of caring for and communicating with patients, reducing the physical and mental burden on nurses and improving patient satisfaction.

In addition, by going paperless through a digital shift, we have reduced the amount of printed materials in the hospital by approximately 45%. Everything from checking electronic medical record information, which is updated in real time, to inputting nursing records, can be completed on a smartphone, reducing the risk of infection that would otherwise be associated with paper-based communication.

We were able to improve work efficiency even under difficult circumstances and provide nursing care close to normal even during a cluster, which led to improved job satisfaction for nurses and improved team strength.

[Comment from Kashiwaha Neurosurgical Hospital]

With the cluster, the range of uses for "AmiVoice iNote" has expanded, making it possible to reduce the burden associated with nursing records. Even after cluster convergence, in addition to voice input, the camera function and electronic medical record viewing function were effectively used, leading to the spread of "AmiVoice iNote."

Furthermore, improved work efficiency has made it possible to secure sufficient time with patients. I believe that being able to find time to listen to and be close to the patient was able to provide psychological support to the patient, as anxiety was increasing due to the changes in the environment due to isolation in addition to being hospitalized.

The quality of nursing care has been improved through increased work efficiency, and job satisfaction has also increased as the patients have felt the effects. We would like to continue to promote the use of methods that are beneficial to patients and nurses.
