Voice input with the industry's highest recognition rate makes medication instructions to patients more efficient
Advanced Media Corporation (head office: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Suzuki Kiyoyuki; hereinafter "Advanced Media") has developed a voice recognition system application called "AmiVoice(R)" for dispensing systems, and will be rolling it out nationwide in all pharmacies operated by Nippon Chouzai Co., Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Mitsuhara Hiroshi; listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange; hereinafter "Nihon Chouzai"), one of the largest dispensing pharmacy chains, from January 2005.
Unlike conventional voice recognition software, the newly developed "AmiVoice(R) Ex Pharmacy" does not require pre-registration of the voice. In addition, this voice recognition system already has approximately 40,000 technical terms, such as drug names, disease names, and symptoms, so no pre-registration of terms is required. Furthermore, it is a highly convenient product that allows new and unknown terms to be easily registered and recognized by voice. By using "AmiVoice(R) Ex Pharmacy," it is possible to input the patient's chief complaint and medication instructions by voice, significantly reducing the burden of keyboard input on pharmacists.
[Current situation of dispensing pharmacies]
In recent years, with the increase in outpatients due to the aging society, the separation of medical and pharmaceutical functions is rapidly progressing. Hospitals and clinics are dedicated to medical procedures such as consultations and examinations, while pharmacists at insurance pharmacies manage medication histories and provide medication instructions. This was fully established through active promotion by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) from the perspective of improving the quality of medical care. Since then, with the increase in the number of prescriptions issued, there has been a demand for family dispensing pharmacies and improved medication instructions. In addition, due to revisions to drug prices and special instruction surcharges, there is a tendency to emphasize dispensing fees based on medication instructions to patients rather than sales by pharmacists, and the system is being developed.
[Introduction]
Regarding the adoption of "AmiVoice(R) Ex Pharmacy," Takahashi Shinji, general manager of Japan Dispensing System, said, "Communicating with patients is a very important task for pharmacists. Furthermore, keeping detailed records of medication history information, such as chief complaints and medication instructions, leads to improved service to patients. However, if this information is recorded on a computer to enhance it, the burden of keyboard input on pharmacists increases. The most important factors in selecting this voice recognition software were the recognition rate and the comprehensiveness of the dictionary. Advanced Media's AmiVoice(R) Ex Pharmacy does not require advance voice registration, is equipped with a dedicated dictionary specialized for the work of dispensing pharmacies, and features a high recognition rate of 98%. This reduces the burden of inputting, and we believe it will also make inputting much easier for pharmacists who are not accustomed to using a keyboard."
