You can now search the web on your mobile phone with your voice instead of your fingers
Voice Domain Services Inc. (VDS), a subsidiary of Advanced Media Inc. (CEO: Suzuki Kiyoyuki, head office: Toshima-ku, Tokyo), will begin a trial voice-based Internet search service for mobile phones on November 2005, 11. By using this service, mobile phone users will be freed from the trouble of having to enter URLs and perform searches. At the same time, it will provide an effective advertising tool for companies that wish to attract users to their sites.
On January 2006, 1, we will begin accepting registrations of company names, product names, and service names from companies (advertisers), and the official service is scheduled to begin in March.
Service overview
This service can be used from regular mobile phones and mobile phones known as smartphones that have special launcher software installed.
When a user speaks into a mobile phone the voice domain (company name, product or service name) that indicates the desired site, the speech is converted into text using voice recognition technology, and a URL link to jump to the desired site is displayed. The user can reach the desired site by clicking on the link.
The fee is collected from the companies that register the voice domain, so users can receive the service free of charge. (Users are responsible for voice call access fees and packet access fees.)
About operation method
Smartphone
1) Start the dedicated launcher software.
2) When you speak the voice domain of the site you want to access, multiple link suggestions will be displayed.
3) Click on the link for the desired site and your browser will open and the site will be displayed.
General mobile phone
1) Access vd-s.jp
2) Clicking the [Enter voice domain] link will connect you to the server via a telephone line.
3) Speak the voice domain of the site you want to access.
4) Click "Show search results" and multiple link suggestions will be displayed.
5) Click on the link for the desired site to be taken to that site.
Service positioning
The introduction of the voice domain service allows users to easily access a company's mobile phone site by voice. Conventional promotions using a company's mobile phone required users to access the company's mobile phone site after selecting from multiple menus, to type the URL of the company's mobile phone site with their thumbs, to type an email address with their thumbs and send a blank email, and then access the company's mobile phone site in response, or to take a picture of a QR code with a digital camera phone and access the company's mobile phone site.
Inputting company names, product names, and service names by voice not only allows users easy access, but also provides companies (advertisers) with a new means of promotion. Companies (advertisers) can implement promotional measures linked to existing media such as television, radio, newspapers, magazines, train displays, and posters by announcing that users can speak their company name or product name into a mobile phone. By having users speak the company name or product name into their mobile phone on the street, companies (advertisers) can turn the mobile phone user themselves into a new advertising medium. In the conventional world of Internet advertising, where the PC was used as an input tool, PC users could only type the company name, product name, or service name into the keyboard, and there was a limit to how much awareness could be increased on the spot without going through the Internet.
