Speech recognition technology from Advanced Media Corporation (Head office: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kazuyuki Hasegawa; hereinafter, "Advanced Media")AmiVoice®has been adopted by Benesse Corporation (Head office: Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture; President and COO: Fukushima Tamotsu; hereinafter referred to as Benesse) for its correspondence course "Shinkenzemi Junior High School Course +i (Plus Eye)" (hereinafter referred to as "Shinkenzemi Plus Eye") for second-year junior high school students (starting in April 2).
In recent years, the Internet environment for junior high school students has improved dramatically, with 6% of junior high school students using the Internet at home (according to a survey by Benesse). In this environment, "Shinkenzemi Plus Eye" was launched in April 2008 for first-year junior high school students, and is a correspondence course that has seen a rapid increase in the number of members, combining the understanding and retention of textbooks with the ease of online learning, such as video explanations and collection of weak questions.
Speech recognition technology included as an English pronunciation practice featureAmiVoice®When a learner reads out a word or sentence, speech recognition technology is used to determine pronunciation errors. This allows the speech evaluation to be visualized in real time, and members have given positive feedback, saying things like "my pronunciation has improved" and "I'm more confident in English."
Starting in 2009, a new section will be introduced that aims to help students acquire practical conversational skills by using the voice recognition function to dub phrases that appear in video dramas while pretending to be the characters. By practicing out loud the expressions used in scenarios that evoke real life, students can acquire the ability to compose and converse in English.
