Advanced Media Corporation (headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hasegawa Kazuyuki; hereinafter "Advanced Media") and Naganuma School Corporation (location: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Chairman of the Board: Hori Michio; hereinafter "Naganuma School") have jointly developed a Japanese Pronunciation Learning System for foreigners, which will be introduced at Naganuma School in April 2009.
Naganuma School is the longest-standing Japanese language school in Japan, having consistently focused on Japanese language education since its opening in 1948.
Since 2006, Advanced Media's voice recognition technologyAmiVoice®We have incorporated a reading aloud learning system equipped with this technology into our classes, providing Japanese language learners with an advanced Japanese language learning environment that has been well received.
This time, Advanced Media's know-how, backed by a proven track record, and voice recognition technology in the education field will be combined toAmiVoice®We have been highly praised for our many achievements using this system, and by utilizing the know-how that Naganuma School has cultivated over many years in Japanese language education, we have jointly developed a "Japanese Pronunciation Learning System" for foreigners.
The newly developed system detects errors in Japanese pronunciation and intonation that are common among foreigners in real time, something that was not possible with previous Japanese language learning systems, and displays the results visually, making it possible for users to self-study Japanese pronunciation.
This system is equipped with new voice recognition technology that points out common mistakes in Japanese language made by foreigners. In developing the system, we collected over 3,000 audio recordings from students at Naganuma School and built a general-purpose database of Japanese language mistakes for foreigners.
In commercialization, we have made the explanations of pronunciation learning methods available in five languages, English, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai, in response to a long-standing need, and have realized a simple and easy-to-use user interface based on the results of monitoring by students at Naganuma School. Furthermore, we have incorporated ideas to maintain the motivation of students to study on their own, such as adding a history management function that statistically displays the weak points of students.
Advanced Media and Naganuma School will continue to work with universities, vocational schools, and other Japanese language education institutions to expand the misuse database, improve the assessment accuracy, and provide Japanese language learners with an effective Japanese language learning environment.
Furthermore, we aim to expand sales by promoting and promoting Japanese language learning services for foreigners to universities and other educational institutions.
